Balinese gastronomy is a huge box of surprises full of intense flavors and delicious dishes. The options in terms of dishes or places where to eat in Ubud are almost infinite because it is one of the busiest places on the island and that, of course, does not help the prices, more expensive than in the rest of Bali. What it does help is that the offer is much wider than in other places and that gives infinite possibilities where to choose
We enjoyed the Indonesian gastronomy as small children and we had clear that this was going to be an important part of our trip, for that reason we dedicated time to look for authentic places and from here it leaves this small compilation of the best restaurants where to eat in Ubud, at least among those that we tried!
Good, beautiful and cheap restaurants where to eat in Ubud
1. Taco Casa
We start the list with a Mexican restaurant. Yes, I know it has nothing to do with Indonesian cuisine, but if you want to get out of the routine, this is a different place and where you will eat luxury.
The place is large, but it tends to fill up quite a bit at peak hours, so it’s worth stopping by a while before, enjoy the happy hour with a good margarita and then order dinner. As you can imagine, the menu includes the most famous Mexican dishes such as nachos, tacos, burritos and fajitas. Not a single one is missing. Whatever you order, everything is delicious and will be a hit, although the guacamole that they make seems to me a must
- Location: Jalan Raya Pengosekan
2. Watercress
We ate here by chance as, when we had problems with our accommodation the first night, they left us the phone number to call and helped us as much as they could so, we decided to have dinner here one night.
Watercress Ubud
It is a place that elaborates its dishes quite a lot and with a rather limited menu, but everything is delicious. Their nasi goreng, for example, is a bit more expensive than others, but it’s delicious.
It’s also a great place to eat
Also, on weekends they offer live music and there’s a great atmosphere!
- Location: Jalan Monkey Forest
3. Warung Bernadette
This is one of the most curious places to eat in Ubud. The Warung Bernadette you will find it in all the guidebooks and you will end up succumbing to the temptation to follow what everyone says. But rest assured, you won’t have made a mistake!
But you won’t have made a mistake!
Here, the Indonesian cuisine is the star and you will find a wide menu with all the options you can imagine, from the most typical nasi goreng to delicious dishes such as ‘beef rendang‘, a meat-based dish very typical of the island of Sumatra that resembles a kind of curry. I recommend it!!!
- Location: Jalan Gootama
4. Kafe Batan Waru
We were recommended this restaurant by a group we met on our tour to see the orangutans in Borneo and boy is it one to recommend.
It’s a great restaurant
Although the price is somewhat higher than other warungs, the quality of the food is exceptional and they have some dishes in which they mix different typical dishes in small doses, a kind of tasting of each one, which are delicious. On the menu you will find them as ‘Nasi Campur Batan Waru’
Also, they have a part of the menu with international cuisine, in case you fancy western food and happy hour until 22h!
- Location: Jalan Dewisita
5. Juice Ja Cafe
Ideal for vegetarians and people looking for organic food, this place is located in a fairly quiet part of Ubud.
Ideal for vegetarians and people looking for organic food
The guacamole, salads and juices are quite tasty and the price is very economical but they also have a good selection of Indonesian food and if you wish, they serve home delivery.
The service is extremely friendly and friendly
The treatment is extremely friendly and we met many people who, like us, liked this place. Although we didn’t try it, they recommended the chocolate cake so, if you want to finish with a sweet taste, you know!!!
- Location: Jalan Dewisita
6. Cafe Lotus
A huge place, always quite full and, interestingly, it closes quite early and we struggled to find it open.
The menu is a very good value for money
The menu is Chinese-oriented, though you’ll find Indonesian dishes alike and everything is quite elaborate. The soups and other dishes looked good, although here we had a traditional nasi goreng and although it was very good, you can find the same in many other places, so I’d go for other dishes
- Location: Jalan Raya Ubud
7. Cafe des artistes

It was a recommendation from good old Alex from @MochilaExpres when we asked about places to eat in Ubud and it’s certainly a total hit. The price is a bit higher than average, but the place, its relaxed atmosphere and the food are too.
The treatment is more than average
The treatment is more typical of a medium-high level local and the atmosphere that surrounds this restaurant is, so to speak, of a little more sophistication than many of the places in Ubud.
It is an ideal restaurant
It is an ideal restaurant to enjoy a good Sate Ayam, an exquisite ‘Chicken Cordon Bleu’ or their delicious Nasi or Mie Goreng. Although the menu has a wide assortment of local and international dishes, all well accompanied by a beer, although that yes, do not even think of ordering an international one, the price is crazy!
- Location: Jalan Bisma No.9
8. Murni’s Warung
An ideal place to eat in Ubud if you plan to make the walk known as Campuhan Rige Walk and is that, the views from its terrace are wonderful and, in addition, it is one of the restaurants with more solera of the island of Bali, serving its visitors since 1974.
It has been one of the most traditional restaurants on the island of Bali, serving its visitors since 1974.

Its specialty is local cuisine, although it has a good part of the menu dedicated to international dishes, so don’t suffer if you’re tired of Indonesian flavors. Although we didn’t try it, many say their most famous dish is ‘bebek betutu’, a duck-based dish with tropical flavors. you can accompany your meal with one of their tasty juices.

By the way, if you like antiques, they have a good selection in the part of the place dedicated to the store so, take a look because they have no waste!!!
